Match Report - 28 Sep 2008, BALLINGER "BOMBERS" FOOTBALL CLUB BFC U11s 2009-10 lost to Loudwater
Ballinger "Bombers" FC 4 Loudwater FC 6 Sunday 28th September.
After the absolute stuffing Loudwater gave Ballinger on the opening game of the season, this had the hallmarks of another cricket score.
Ballinger came out of the blocks the quickest but their two strikers, Blakeley and Birchenough, narrowly put two chances wide.
Loudwater started to dominate the midfield and took the lead around 15 minutes in with a cracking goal splitting the defence.
Heads didn’t drop and Ballinger continued to pressurise, only to be hit on the counter.
2-0 down with about 5 minutes to go until half time, Ballinger coaches were hoping to keep it at that in order to gee the boys up at half time, unfortunately another well worked goal put Loudwater 3-0 up.
Second half was an absolute hum dinger.
Matthew Ashmore came off with a muscle strain, with Luke Reading assigned the job of marking their number 14, who was causing the damage.
Early into the second half Matthew James received the ball out wide on the left, beat one player, transferred the ball onto his right foot, and hit an incredible shot into the bottom corner. 3-1
The game opened up with Loudwater having good possession and Dan Stirzaker pulling off one cracking save. Ballinger kept going close and it appeared that some one kept moving the goal as the ball narrowly missed the right hand post no less than 3 occasions!
Loudwater continued to press and finally scored a wonderful goal to go 4-1 up, and then immediate after kick off scored again to go 5-1 up.
Game over? No way. Back came the Red Men with Jack Blakeley being pulled down in the box for a pen. Ballinger's Number 8, David Hughes, steeped up, hit a full shot that crashed off the underside of the bar and and was brilliantly followed up by Matthew O'Kelly to make it 5-2. O'Kelly was having a brilliant game in the centre of defence.
Moments later, Ballinger had a free kick five yards outside Loudwaters box to the left. Tom Birchenough struck the sweetest left foot, ignoring his coaches yelling! To bury the ball in the top right hand corner. Andy Gray would be hoarse talking about it. 5-3.
Jack Blakeley was replaced by Matthew Ashmore up front. Jack had run himself into the ground.
With Matt Ashmore's speed up front the reds to continue pushing and finally Toby Lyons from midfield smashed one in.5-4 and five minutes to go and 4 minutes of injury time.
With Will Russell tirelessly working the right wing, Ballinger had a few other chances to push for the equaliser, and one wonderful cross from David Hughes narrowly failed to find the lurking Toby Lyons.
Loudwater continued to press but met a wall of steel in Oliver Cooksey and Luke Dyson in the Ballinger defence. However, a quick well worked break, saw Loudwater beat the goalie and the ball trickle towards the Ballinger line, as Cooksey and Lyons raced to clear it, the speed of the ball beat them and Loudwater went 6-4 ahead. While their players celebrated the winning goal, Ballinger boys looked crest fallen, but should be proud of their achievements.
This was a cracking game, played in the right spirit by both sets of players and fans. Well done Loudwater for a fantastic game, and to Ballinger for pushing the top of the table team so close.
