Match Report - 05 Oct 2008, BALLINGER "BOMBERS" FOOTBALL CLUB BFC U11s 2009-10 lost to Bourne End
Written by Andrew Birchenough:
On a wild and wet Sunday morning, Bourne End were the visitors to Ballinger in the U 11 Buckinghamshire League.
This was the first occasion the teams had met in the U 11 competition and both made a feisty start despite the conditions, and it was not until mid way through the first half until Bourne End opened the scoring through Robert White after a goalmouth scramble.
A number of clear cut chances went begging for both teams later in the half until Jack Blakely, the Ballinger striker was put clean through and side-footed the ball past the flailing keeper in the 22nd minute to even the scores.
It remained 1 – 1 at half time and both managers faced a tense team talk to invigorate their young teams.
Bourne End came out the stronger team in the second period scoring twice in the space of 5 minutes. The first, another goalmouth scramble following a corner and poked in for Bourne End’s and Robert Whites second goal and two wonderfully taken opportunities by Sam Brown.
The second half continued at pace with a superlative demonstration of goal keeping by Daniel Stirzakker in the Ballinger goal who prevented a heavier loss.
David Hughes, the Ballinger captain struck a dream of a free kick to close the gap to two but the defensive quartet of Bourne End held strong until the final whistle.
An exciting and balanced game but a disappointing result for Captain Hughes and his Ballinger team.
