Battling Ballinger Bombers Beat Bourne End

On a gray and chilly Sunday morning, Ballinger Bombers U11 team traveled to Bourne End, optimistic to secure revenge after going down in a 6 - 4 thriller earlier in the season.

The match began at an energetic pace with both teams creating half chances in the first 15 minutes, but it took an own goal by the Ballinger defense to open the scoring. Undaunted, the game continued to flow and two minutes later, the scores were level after a fine header from Matthew Ashmore and 5 minutes later, Ballinger moved ahead, 2 - 1 from the right boot of Jack Blakeley.

Bourne End fought tirelessly as the mid match break approached and were rewarded on the whistle of half time with a faultless shot low to the right by Connor Wright .

Both managers had much to say to their teams during the break with the result hanging in the balance and for the taking by either side.

The second half continued at the same relentless pace - end to end football thrilling the crowd.

They didn’t have to wait long before a deft lob by Ballinger’s left wing Matthew James soared over the advancing keeper to put the away side in the lead again after only 3 minutes.

The match rose to a crescendo with only five minutes remaining when a stirling effort by Sam Brown leveled the scores for a third time and with only 5 minutes of normal time remaining.

They thought it was all over with the points shared but Jack Blakeley had other ideas and two minutes later, made it 4 - 3 to Ballinger.

The Bourne End supporters’ encouragement and cheers for the home team were unceasing till the final whistle but Ballinger clung on to record their first victory of the season and a platform for the remainder of the league campaign.

After the match, Ballinger’s manager Simon Hughes said ‘The team’s performances during the first part of the season do not do justice to the quality of football the team has displayed. Hopefully, with a win under our belts, the results will see Ballinger march up the league table
